Medan, Indonesia - Tiong Sim


By far,this is the most special flavor to me. Remember a instant noodle called Mee Goreng by a brand named Indomee or now Ibumie? They have the close taste, no wonder they are called Indomee, because they are from Indonesia. I like this instant noodle very much too,until my friend put a nickname for me...mee goreng. Well i don't care much...as long as i get to eat it.

This shop is called Tiong Sim, located in middle of Chinatown of Medan. It started their business back in 1933! I can see many regular customers. Luckily i asked the hawker nearby where got famous wantan mee. When they told me that yes ,there is famous wantan mee around, i am really happy. The Chinese here can speak Hokkien, and they are very friendly too.

I think they are operating only at night time. I forgot the price, but its not cheap. I think around RM5 per bowl. Anyway, its delicious and i like it. I even went back the next day to eat again. After all, i did not expect to visit Medan so soon in near future, unless got people invite me there to eat Wantan Mee again, haha.

So, don't forget to try it out when you are in Medan Indonesia. You won't regret it

  • What is Wantan Mee?

    Wantan Mee is a popular noodle dish in Penang Malaysia and available at most kopitiam, coffee shops and hawker centres. It is said to be Cantonese dish and originated from South China. It is usually taken from morning to mid night. Wantan Mee gets its name from the wanton (Chinese ravioli) that accompanies the noodle dish. A less common name for Wantan Mee is Tok Tok Mee, so called because in the olden days WantanMee hawkers used to announce their arrival by hitting two bamboo sticks or chopsticks together.

    Wantan Mee also available in other country who has Chinese.

    Wantan Mee is available either as dry form, on a plate, or as a soup. The dry form is served in soy sauce and sesame oil, and topped with barbecued pork and vegetable.

  • 云吞面的历史 The History

    云吞面起源于广州,五十年代在香港蓬勃兴起,至今云吞面依然甚得人心。据说,此食品在唐宋时即已传入广东。据《群居解颐》一书记载:“岭南地暖……又其俗,入冬好食馄饨,往往稍喧,食须用扇”。至于广东何时用“云吞”二字取代馄饨之称,则无从考证。

    云吞面是广东地道小吃的一种。虽然面食在广东并不是以主食的地位出现,但出奇的是大部分的广东人对云吞面有一种难以割舍的情怀。 据考据,云吞面最早在清末民初,广州的西关一带出现,相传是同治年间从湖南传入。初期多数是由小贩肩挑着四处贩卖 馄饨也叫云吞,起初是用于祭祀的。 直到宋代,每逢冬至,市镇店肆停业,各家包馄饨祭祖,祭毕全家长幼分食祭品馄饨。富贵人家一盘祭祀馄饨,有十多种馅,谓之:“百味馄饨”。 南宋后,馄饨传入市肆。

    特色   :卤酱充满蚝油味、面条滑口
    地点   :彭亨路与马利坚路的交接处
    营业时间 :晚上7时分至11时30分(每周六与周日休息)


    云吞面无论在槟岛或是大马其他州属都可轻易品尝到,但是淋上卤酱的云吞面可并不多见。而阿龙云吞面除了料够外,卤酱就是他的特点。
    阿龙说:“卤酱要够味,所选用的鸡只非常重要,必须是老鸡,再加上蚝油,那味道才会鲜甜可口。”这烹饪秘方可是传授至其爷爷。每天,他都会花上2小时,以炮制这独门卤酱。
    除了一般的义烧肉、菜和云吞配料外,顾客也可点吃鸡爪与饺子。而阿龙的饺子内馅是使用猪肉与虾肉所包制成。
    阿龙虽然年纪轻轻,但他可是获得爷爷的真传,传至他这一代,在该处售卖云吞面也已有16年之久,也卖得街知巷闻。

    If you are coming from Mc Donalds in Green Lane, you will reach a roundabout, turn to 9 o clock, go direct until you see this stall on your left. It is near a corner kopitiam.
